COMPLETION OF DEBSI WATER FLAGSHIP PROJECT
The Debsi water flagship project was initiated on 25th June 2022 in Debsi, Chang gewog, Thimphu under RGoB-De-suung National Service partnership project. It aimed to address the scarcity of clean drinking water caused by rapid urbanization and population growth in the area.
The project was a collaborative effort between Thimphu Dzongkhag and Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT). They identified a reliable water source near Nabi Rongchu to supply safe drinking water to Debsi region.
The project’s scope was significant, intending to serve 334 plots and benefit around 9150 people in Debsi and neighboring areas for a minimum of 30 years.
On 1st August 2023, the project was formally handed over to the Gewog. The inauguration ceremony was honored by the presence of Hon’ble Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Bhutan, along with officials from MoIT, Dzongkhag Administration, Desuung office, RBA, and relevant stakeholders.
Throughout the construction period, a dedicated team of 150 De-suups worked tirelessly on the project, with support from Royal Bhutan Army (RBA) and technical experts from Dzongkhag Administration and MoIT. The total cost incurred for completing the project amounted to Nu 55 million.
